Agricultural Genome to Phenome Initiative – Workshop Grants

From US Department of Agriculture

The National Institute of Food and Agriculture's Agricultural Genome to Phenome Initiative (AG2PI) is intended to study agriculturally significant crops and animals in production environments to achieve viable and secure agricultural production. This initiative seeks to fill gaps in knowledge of agricultural crops, animal genetics, and phenomics, and to identify and develop a functional understanding of relevant genes from animals and crops important to the agriculture sector of the United States. The goal is to ensure future genetic improvements and to enhance genetics to reduce the economic impact of pathogens. Findings are to be disseminated to relevant audiences.

      Eligible Activities

The Agricultural Genome to Phenome Initiative supports interdisciplinary research projects that advance agricultural productivity, efficiency, and data-driven innovation across crop and animal systems. The purpose of the program is to:

      • Study agriculturally significant crops and animals in production environments to achieve sustainable agricultural production.
      • Ensure that gaps in existing knowledge of agricultural crop and animal genetics and phenomics are filled.
      • Identify and develop a functional understanding of relevant genes from animals and agronomically relevant genes from crops that are of importance to the U.S.’ agriculture sector.
      • Ensure future genetic improvement of crops and animals of importance to the U.S.’ agriculture sector.
      • Study the relevance of diverse germplasm as a source of unique genes that may be of importance in the future.
      • Enhance genetics to reduce the economic impact of pathogens on crops and animals of importance to the U.S.’ agriculture sector.
      • Disseminate findings to relevant audiences.

Specific to this opportunity, workshop proposals should organize interdisciplinary agricultural genome-to-phenome workshops that engage with scientists on high-priority, stakeholder-driven issues. Workshop grants are not intended to support existing conferences or serve as an alternative to conference sponsorship.
