Consortium for Nuclear Forensics

Direct-fund basic research at universities that complement applied research in nuclear forensics at the DOE National Laboratories. Research disciplines include radiochemistry, geochemistry, shock physics, nuclear physics, radiation detector science, nuclear material science engineering, nuclear chemical engineering, modeling and simulation for nuclear applications, and seismology/infrasound methods for yield determination. A secondary goal is developing a diverse and talented cadre of technical professionals for nuclear missions such as nuclear forensics, incident response, and nonproliferation.

      The application must contain:
      • A minimum of three other university partners who meet the above definition of IHE as consortium members. An integrated approach to the work will be essential in tackling the proposed tasks under the consortium. The lead university is discouraged from including an overly large number of loosely connected university partners.
      • A minimum of one or more DOE National Laboratories as consortium members in accordance with the “Other Eligibility Requirements”
