From US Department of Interior

Cooperative Research Units support federal, state, other natural resource managers, and professionals by providing the expertise and facilities of leading research universities, and graduate student training. Federal Unit scientists, affiliated university faculty, and advanced students work in a variety of fields of cutting-edge science to address the science and management of fish, wildlife, and natural resources. Sponsoring agencies are provided assistance in the interpretation and application of the research findings as well as a talent pool of trained biologists graduating from the program. The CRU Tripartite Mission: 1. Deliver applied research to fish and wildlife resource decision makers, 2. Enhance graduate education in fisheries and wildlife sciences to cultivate the next generation of conservation professionals, 3. Provide robust technical assistance to personnel managing fish, wildlife, and ecosystems.
