Eligible Entities
Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized). Specifically, Tribal governments with signed Memorandum of Agreements with the National Park Service to assuming duties of the State Historic Preservation Office on Tribal lands, as defined in 54 U.S.C. 302702 the National Historic Preservation Act.
Eligible Activities
These grants support Tribal Historic Preservation Offices (THPOs) in identifying, evaluating, and protecting historic properties on tribal lands. Eligible activities include surveys, preservation planning, technical assistance, physical preservation, federal project review, education, and listing properties in the National Register of Historic Places or a Tribal Register.
This funding covers historic preservation work that a tribe has formally agreed to take on from its State Historic Preservation Office through a Partnership Agreement with the National Park Service.
