Commerce funds energy upgrades and compliance reporting support across 21 public and 49 private buildings statewide, advancing Washington’s clean future

Seventy-four building owners across Washington will share $45 million in Clean Buildings Performance Grant funding to make energy-efficient upgrades. These investments will help buildings come into compliance with the first in nation Clean Buildings Performance Standard, cut greenhouse gas emissions, reduce utility costs, and boost local economies by improving building efficiency. Grant recipients include:

  • Pasco School District – Nearly $2 million to install 24 heat pumps, upgrade hot water systems, and assess energy use at more than 20 buildings.
  • The Larson Building (Yakima) – Upgrades to the 11-story Larson Building to improve comfort, energy use, and quietness while preserving its historic character.
  • Walla Walla University – Lighting and envelope improvements, plus support for compliance reporting.

The funding supports retrofit activities, including LED lighting, heating and cooling upgrades, smart building controls, and the development of Clean Buildings compliance documentation.

Buildings generate 25% of Washington’s emissions, making energy efficiency a key strategy under the state’s Climate Commitment Act. Learn more about the Clean Buildings Performance Standard and available programs at commerce.wa.gov
